Edinburgh Spotlight: Catherine McCafferty: (Not) That Bad
Saturday February 1, 2025 3:00pm - 4:30pm PST
‘(Not) That Bad’ is a show about death, dating, and diarrhea. Catherine McCafferty will take you on the journey of her life: growing up in a family affected by alcoholism, coming out of the closet late, getting engaged to her first gay partner, having her engagement end, watching her dad die, getting sexually assaulted, and (arguably) worst of all shitting herself in public.
The show strives to explore that tragedy plus jokes equals comedy, because time isn’t linear. Grief is a circle and the circle can and should have some really funny speed bumps along the way. If the journey of life isn’t where we are going but how we got there, it's also about how we tell people we got there.

Off Book: The Improvised Musical
Saturday February 1, 2025 4:00pm - 5:30pm PST
Jessica McKenna and Zach Reino create a completely improvised musical in an attempt to combat the notion that musicals should be “carefully crafted” or “thought out at all.”

Zach Reino and Jessica McKenna are a versatile musical comedy duo better known as "The Zach & The Jess". They currently write and compose music for the WGA award winning Peacock Series "Baking It" starring Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler. The duo has also written songs and musical sketches for the Peacock series "Bumper in Berlin",_ _the hit animation show "Rick and Morty", "Party Over Here" (a Fox sketch show produced by The Lonely Island), Buzzfeed, FunnyOrDie and Nickelodeon. Zach and Jess recently sold a live-action musical comedy feature with David Wain attached to direct and Elizabeth Banks’ Brownstone Productions for Amazon. They also created and starred in "Serious Music", a digital series for ABC.

Their weekly improvised musical podcast "Off Book" has been praised by various online publications including Indie Wire, USA Today, Parade, AV Club and Splitsider and been featured at Comedy Central’s Clusterfest Festival, Moontower, the world renowned Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, and the upcoming Netflix Is A Joke Festival in LA. All of the dialogue is said for the first time, the characters are created as you watch, and if ever you're wondering where the story is going...so are they! Every show features comedians, celebrities and wellness experts ready to test their knowledge of the latest wellness trends and reveal their own self-care obsessions. It’s like if "Lovett or Leave It" and "@midnight" made a baby that was obsessed with wellness and lymph node massages–but also cared about the cultures and origins of these splashy trends. Self-care already felt competitive. We just made our anxieties into a show. “What’s the point of self-care if you can’t win? Do you even charge your crystals, bro?” – Jenny Yang, Host + Lifestyle Director.

The Improvised Shakespeare Company
Saturday February 1, 2025 9:30pm - 11:00pm PST
Based on one audience suggestion (a title of a show that has never been written), The Improvised Shakespeare Company creates a fully improvised Shakespearean masterpiece right before your eyes. Prepare for an evening of spontaneous comedy using the language and themes of William Shakespeare. Nothing has been planned out, rehearsed, or written. All of the dialogue is said for the first time, the characters are created as you watch, and if ever you're wondering where the story is going...so are they! "TimeOut Chicago" calls it “Staggeringly Brilliant” and “Downright Hilarious!” You've never seen the Bard like this before!

With Joey Bland, Ross Bryant, Brendan Dowling, Greg Hess, and Blaine Swen.
